Causes of Stains
There are many factors as to how stains can appear. Not cleaning your pool and not maintaining the pool properly can cause stains to appear more frequently, so cleaning your pool often is the best option to keep stains away in the future.
The quality of the water in your area can be a factor as to why stains are appearing, lower quality water may have chemicals that can cause staining.
Another factor that could cause stains to occur is poor water balance. There are two main ways to identify poor water balance, these are pH and Alkalinity. When pH levels are too low, the water will become more acidic, meaning it will be highly likely that staining will occur. When the alkalinity levels in your pool are too low the surfaces of your pool will start to stain and corrode.
Identifying the Type of Stain you Have
If your stain is green, red or blue this means that the stain originated from an organic source. And if your stain is blue-green, red-brown or purple-black in colour then the stain originated from a metallic source.
Removing the Stain
To remove an organic stain, you will need to shock the pool by adding chemicals to raise the pool’s chlorine levels and then brush where the stains are. To remove metallic stains, you will first need to lower the chlorine levels in your pool and then apply vitamin C to the stain to absorb the stain.
