Buoy vs Feeder: Which Do You Need?
A pool chlorine dispenser floats freely around your pool and doses the water as it goes through the Buoy, making it a low cost, easy option for smaller or less frequently used pools. On the other hand, a chlorine feeder is plumbed into your filtration system and doses continuously and more evenly every time the pump runs, which makes it better suited to larger pools or ones that see heavy use. How Does a Floating Chlorine Dispenser Work?
Water flows in and out of small holes or vents in the buoy’s casing as it floats. Each time water passes through, it dissolves a small amount of the tablets held inside, carrying chlorine back out into the pool. Because the buoy moves around with the water’s surface, dosing isn’t as even as a plumbed feeder, but for many garden pools it’s more than enough to keep the water properly sanitised.
How Often Does a Floating Chlorine Dispenser Need Refilling?
This depends on your pool size, how many tablets the buoy holds and how much the pool is used, but most home pool buoys need checking and topping up every one to two weeks during the swimming season. Keep an eye on the tablets rather than working strictly to a schedule, if they’re running low, top them up.
